MEET THE HOSTS – GBEMI

Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi is recognized as one of the most influential media personalities in Nigerian popular culture & multi-media.
Her 14 years of on-air hosting experience has led her to become the media trailblazer she is today: multimedia host, entertainment personality, fashion entrepreneur, event host and actress.
Known for her signature straight to the point yet laid back style of interviewing, Gbemi is well respected –and praised for ability to get up-close and personal with larger than life personalities. She has interviewed the likes of Kim Kardashian, Cardi B, Future, Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Wizkid, Davido, 2Face Idibia & many more.
EDUCATION
She attended Pampers Private School, Lagos for her primary education. Her parents then enrolled her at Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo and later transferred her to Queens College, Yaba, Lagos.
Gbemi then went on to Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan where she bagged a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with Honors in 2004.
She later got a Masters degree in Media & Communication from the Pan Atlantic University in Lagos in 2010.
MEDIA WORK
She got her first media job as a junior reporter at the Nigerian Television Authority in Victoria Island, Lagos where she was the only Youth Corp member who was assigned stories that aired nationwide.
At the same time, she got a second job as a news editor at Cool FM, Lagos. Gbemi soon moved from the news desk to co-host on The Good Morning Nigeria show alongside Dan Foster (the most listened to radio show in Nigeria at the time.)
In 2009, she took a job as an On Air personality with The Beat99.9 FM. In 2011, she was appointed Program Director of Naija FM 102.7FM- one of the youngest in Nigeria.
As a professional Event Host, she has anchored numerous events, concerts, red carpets, premieres & weddings.
ENTREPRENEUR
While running Speakerboxx Productions (a media consulting firm)- which handled campaigns for companies like Skye Vodka, American Honey, Hennessy Artistry & celebrities like Darey Art Alade, D’Banj, Praiz & others- Gbemi tried her hand at retailing several products ranging from Rechargeable Fans to women’s shoes.
In 2015, she launched “Gbemisoke shoes” – a shoe line for women.
AWARDS
One of the most decorated media personalities in Nigeria, She won a Future Award for “On Air personality of the Year in 2008, she won a Dynamix Award in the same year. In 2009, Gbemi won the ELOY awards for Best Female Radio Presenter. She has won several other awards like the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Award & City people awards. In addition to this, she was honored as one of the 100 “Guardians of the Future” by The Future Nigeria project.
